Our focus on sustainability is woven into everything we do, from our thoughtfully renovated buildings to the hands-on lessons in our garden. We believe children should grow up with a deep sense of stewardship for the world around them. Our "green" initiative isn't just a theme, it's a daily practice.
Composting & Recycling:
Children are actively involved in our campus-wide recycling program. They learn firsthand how to reduce waste and contribute to a healthier planet
A "Farm-to-Table" Mindset:
By growing and eating their own food, children connect with the land and develop an appreciation for locally sourced, seasonal food, learning that even small choices can make a big difference

Our commitment begins with our physical spaces. We believe in the art of preserving original materials, which is why most of the Artisan buildings are on the Historic Registry and have been meticulously maintained. We use energy-efficient lighting and low-VOC paint, and we prioritize natural wood materials over plastic or synthetic ones. This philosophy is rooted in the belief that there is more than enough in the natural world to captivate a child's attention, reducing the need for artificial, technology-driven inputs.

With properties averaging 2-5 acres, our students have ample space to explore the natural environment. This freedom promotes peace of mind and security, while stimulating creative learning and a deep appreciation for their surroundings.

Beyond the joy of getting their hands in the soil, gardening offers a powerful foundation for a child's development. Our curriculum teaches essential life skills that cultivate a capable and curious learner.
Patience and Responsibility
Children learn that growth takes time and care. They take ownership of their small plot, learning to water, weed, and nurture their plants through every stage.
Sensory and Motor Skills
The garden engages all five senses, from the feel of the soil to the smell of fresh herbs. Digging, planting, and watering also help develop fine and gross motor skills.
Science and Discovery
Our students become scientists, observing insects, learning about life cycles, and understanding where their food comes from. We also encourage children to get creative by using recycled materials for projects, such as building a "box city" with old boxes.
Nutritional Awareness
The food we grow becomes a part of our daily rhythm. Children help wash the vegetables, prepare simple snacks, and take pride in eating the healthy food they helped grow.

Join Our Growing Community
We believe that learning extends beyond the classroom. We often host family gardening days and seasonal workshops where parents can join their children in the garden, share in the harvest, and learn together. It’s a wonderful way to connect with other Artisan families and strengthen our village.
Both of my children have gone to Artisan Newton since they were infants and I can't say enough about the caring teachers there. My kids can't wait to go to school or to tell us about all the cool things they did with their friends when they get home. We love all the outside time and the deep appreciation for music that the program has instilled in them.
