Our Living Classroom

At Artisan, our garden isn't just a place to grow vegetables, it's a vibrant, living classroom where a child’s sense of wonder blossoms. We believe that caring for the earth teaches responsibility, patience, and a deep respect for the world around us. From the moment they plant a tiny seed to the joy of harvesting, our students connect with nature in a way that is joyful, meaningful, and unforgettable.

Our Green Initiative

A Commitment to a Sustainable Future

Our focus on sustainability is woven into everything we do, from our thoughtfully renovated buildings to the hands-on lessons in our garden. We believe children should grow up with a deep sense of stewardship for the world around them. Our "green" initiative isn't just a theme, it's a daily practice.

Composting & Recycling:

Children are actively involved in our campus-wide recycling program. They learn firsthand how to reduce waste and contribute to a healthier planet

A "Farm-to-Table" Mindset:

By growing and eating their own food, children connect with the land and develop an appreciation for locally sourced, seasonal food, learning that even small choices can make a big difference

the environment as a teacher

Our commitment begins with our physical spaces. We believe in the art of preserving original materials, which is why most of the Artisan buildings are on the Historic Registry and have been meticulously maintained. We use energy-efficient lighting and low-VOC paint, and we prioritize natural wood materials over plastic or synthetic ones. This philosophy is rooted in the belief that there is more than enough in the natural world to captivate a child's attention, reducing the need for artificial, technology-driven inputs.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT

A Space Designed for Natural Exploration

The physical environment at Artisan is thoughtfully designed to support the way young children naturally learn and explore. Our spaces promote being in the moment and engaging with one's surroundings without the saturation of technology.

Intuitive Spaces

Intuitive Spaces

Classrooms feature large, open spaces with abundant natural light and distinct areas of interest, such as dramatic play areas, small reading libraries, and cozy napping corners. This helps children build independence and creativity.

A Connection to the Outdoors

A Connection to the Outdoors

With properties averaging 2-5 acres, our students have ample space to explore the natural environment. This freedom promotes peace of mind and security, while stimulating creative learning and a deep appreciation for their surroundings.

The Garden-Based Curriculum

What Your Child Will Gain

Beyond the joy of getting their hands in the soil, gardening offers a powerful foundation for a child's development. Our curriculum teaches essential life skills that cultivate a capable and curious learner.

Hear From Our Families

Join Our Growing Community

We believe that learning extends beyond the classroom. We often host family gardening days and seasonal workshops where parents can join their children in the garden, share in the harvest, and learn together. It’s a wonderful way to connect with other Artisan families and strengthen our village.

Both of my children have gone to Artisan Newton since they were infants and I can't say enough about the caring teachers there. My kids can't wait to go to school or to tell us about all the cool things they did with their friends when they get home. We love all the outside time and the deep appreciation for music that the program has instilled in them.
